Mushroom World Geography

By Claws

Mushroom Earth is filled with countries and kingdoms, and it can be a little difficult to keep them straight sometimes. That's why a guide was in order. Below is a list of all of the areas on Mushroom Earth and where they fall politically. I will provide pictures when possible.

The Mushroom Kingdom

The stretch of land Mario and Luigi travelled across in SMB. The castles are area centers where Mushroom Retainers preside. It was taken over by Bowser when Mario and Luigi first arrived in the Mushroom Kingdom.

This chain of lofty islands that surrounds a vast central body of water was the site of the events of SMRPG. Here is the residence of the Chancellor, the head of the government, in the city of Mushroom Kingdom, the former capital. (Toad Town is now the capital.) A large castle that is at times controlled by the Koopa Kindgom sits on a rocky island at the northernmost tip of the chain. Mario and Luigi's former home is on the island in the northeastern corner.

The center of the Mushroom Kingdom, this large landmass contains the capital city, Toad Town, and Princess Peach's Mushroom Castle. Desert wastelands are found in the eastern portion, while freezing ones are found in the northern areas. Southwest of the continent is Lavalava Island, an island inhabited by primitive Yoshis. This map shows how the area looked from the sixties to the early 2000s (approximately).

The same area as above, as evidenced by the locaton of Peach's castle (in the center) in relation to Toad Town (just below the castle). Changes include the presence of a Koopa Kingdom Castle to the West, a large mountain made of Thwomps to the southeast, and the Star Hill area to the north. These changes could be attributed to seismic activity, or purposeful environmental intervention by the Mushroom Kingdom and/or the Koopa Kingdom (such as the building of the Koopa Kingdom Castle or the Thwomp Mountain). This was the way the area looked when the bros. where babies and how it looks today (possibly due to nostalgia for the way the area used to look on the part of the governments).

The Mushroom World

The Mushroom World is a chain of islands, each with its own king, that acts like a gateway to the Mushroom Kingdom. It is generally accepted to be part of the Mushroom Kingdom, with the exception of the eighth area. This area, while called Dark Land, is most likely the tip of a much more vast area known as Dark Land, the domain of the Koopa Kingdom. These individual islands are supposedly arranged in a circle. (Note: I couldn't find an official map or screenshot detailing this aspect.) It has been suggested that one of the desert islands is a part of the Dry Dry Desert/Gritzy Desert wasteland, thus placing this chain (and Dark Land, consequently) close to one of the continents.
